The price of diesel fuel continues to
escalate rapidly. Patriot
has always taken the stand to hold-off and clearly
analyze the fuel surcharge issue and its variances.
When fuel prices are
high, Patriot must apply a fuel surcharge, on
a percent of linehaul charges to the bill.
When fuel prices are low, Patriot will reduce
the linehaul charges by a specified percent,
to compensate for the savings. Patriot was the
first Canadian transportation company to include
a reduction in its fuel surcharge schedule,
passing the savings on to you, our customers.
Due to rapidly escalating
fuel costs since May 21, 1998, Patriot Freight
Services will amend its Fuel Surcharge schedule
beginning on August 15th, 2006. Patriot will
adjust the surcharge Weekly, based on
the U.S. National Average Fuel Index of the
previous Monday. The fuel index, published by
the Energy Information Administration of the
U.S. Department of Energy, is available on the
department’s internet site (Click
here)
The surcharge is a strong component of net linehaul
charges and is based on the following table.
